ArcheAge is a fantasy Korean MMORPG currently released only for Korean Gamers. Developed by Korean XL Games under the leadership of Jake Song, ArcheAge was once awarded a next-generation MMO for it has blended elements seen through Perfect World, Ultima Online, and Lineage 2. It will be also released by Tencent in China in 2012, while the North American Servers may be not available until next year.
Highly-civilized yet catastrophe-stricken, the continent resembling the city of Maya was fallen and its inhabitants i.e. precedents are split asunder into two separate islands: East and West with reasons unknown. Now two thousand years later, descendants are chosen to adventure into the world, solve series of mysteries and find the cause of the historical disaster. Mission is calling upon. Let’s set out.
Against a backdrop of mythology, eight races are available for players to choose from as starting characters. In addition to the three commonest races known as Elves, Dwarfs and Nuians (Humans), the other five are quite unique: Ferres, Hariharans, Fairies, Warborn and the Returened. Every archetype can be equipped with three abilities out of the overall ten including Fight, Adamant, Death, Magic, Romance, Illusion, Will, Wild, Vocation and Love at players’ will. And transport means also varies with Walking, Mounts, Carriage, Monorail and Ships, each helpful to different types of journey. Players can consecutively upgrade their roles via an intriguing and rich quests line across the huge world map encompassing three islands: West Isle, East Isle and Middle Isle. This game boasts top-notch elements like a community equal to that of Ultima OL, PvE combat mode resembling World of Warcraft and PvP mode measuring up to Lineage 2.
However, except drawing upon the strong points of other games, ArcheAge is highly initiative with its own original highlights. More specifically, players are able to enjoy their in-game activities not only in continents but also at sea. Players can build boats, recruit seamen, sail to uninhabited islands, moor in the middle of nowhere to fish, wage wars on rival boats and even play pirates. Besides, in the PK system, if player-controlled avatars are reported as vicious and venomous, they will be charged and trialed before being sent to prison where they will be reformed through labor and deprived of application of any skill. What’s more interesting is that in the course of reforming, prisoners have the chance to get a lucky “spoon”, which can be used to scoop away the walls to escape, just like the scenarios in the film of Prison Break or the Shawshank Redemption.
Besides, there are also seamless world map, massive PvP mode for 100 odd players, terrific graphics and music, and so on and so forth. The list of attractions of this game is just so long that a real player will definitely lock it.
