Bigpoint Expressed Interest in Co-publishing Star Trek: Infinite Space

Bigpoint, one of the biggest browser game makers, seems to have a particular fancy for franchises of time-honored movies and TV series, especially when they can be transformed into browser games using their technology.

In an interview with OGLabs on November, 22,  Heiko Hubertz (CEO and founder of Bigpoint) and Matthias Mirlach (Lead Public Relations) expressed their interest in the takeover of Star Trek: Infinite Space, which was shut down by GameForge due to a huge drop of their expectations.

According to Heiko Hubertz, Gameforge has not yet hammered out the scheme and blueprint under which the game runs. Also GameForge refused to comment on the deal Bigpoint disclosed.

Only a few days ago, Gameforge group  dismissed 100 employees, which may be one of reasons why the browser game Star Trek: Infinite Space will not be published. Even worse, GameForge decided to take down another Samurai browser Game Katsuro on 19 December 2011 because the number of players in recent months has greatly reduced, making the running costs too high, and they had no alternative left ahead.

Now, we pin hope on Bigpoint. Could they pass through what is standing in their way and eventually get it published again? Let’s see how the game works in the near future.
