CipSoft Shut Down Fiction Fighters
Aug 24,2012 12:08 by Sara Lau0
CipSoft announced today that the Fiction Fighters project has been shut down with immediate effect.
Stephan Vogler, Managing Director of CipSoft: “We were and still are very proud of our Fiction Fighters project. In accordance with our vision, we’ve challenged ourselves with a true innovation, with regards to both the game mechanics and the graphical implementation. Our small team did a marvellous job in mastering all these challenges.”
Fiction Fighters entered beta stage just a short while ago. Hundreds of players were battling each other in the turn based deck fighting game every day. What made Fiction Fighters unique is definitely the visual style of the fighting action. All battles were carried out in comic style, correspondingly all actions took place in comic book like panels.
Asked about the reasons behind this decision, Vogler explained “We used the beta stage to test both the technical and the conceptional aspects of Fiction Fighters. Technically we were actually overperforming. However at the end of the day, the gaming industry leaves you no choice than to answer one simple question: ‘Is it fun?’ We only drew the consequences from the answer to this question our players gave us.”
CipSoft is mainly known for the MMORPG Tibia. It has been online since 1997 and is therefore one of the oldest MMORPGs in the world. In 2003 CipSoft released TibiaME, the first worldwide MMORPG for mobile phones.
“We’ve gained a lot of experience with Fiction Fighters and we will use it for our future projects.” Vogler promises.
