The designer Sid Meier from Firaxis Games tries to move the enormous success of the decades-old Civ-game series from the PC to Facebook – yet it is free to play with social potions.
Civ fans are skeptical
Hardcore Civ fans are keenly skeptical of if this game will work perfectly in the wake of Farmville, Cityville, City of Wonder, Dragons of Atlantis since the PC and Facebook are totally different platform where the former focuses fast-paced and dynamic gameplay and the later is more centralizing on “social”.
Open Beta Starts
In 2010, the developer team announced the development of Facebook game Civilization World. A year later, they brought the open beta to gamers. Players could access the strategy game for free though it’s not so perfect as the game still is being tweaked. For example, a server maintenance without any prior notice.
The gameplay fundamentally follows the rules of Civ World, or Age of Empires Online. Civ players start by building their settlement to transform a small city to a prosperous and thriving empire and ultimately colonize and conquer other cities. Along the way, players could conduct military training, scientific research in preparation of the war against opponents, of course, your friends on Facebook.
Those who has a deep understanding of Zynga’s Empires & Allies, Playdom’s City of Wonder, or Kabam’s Dragons of Atlantis will easily find they are almost the same except the graphics, music and a few changes.
Although an interview with Sid Meier saying its game differs much from those seen online, yet it actually does not made too much innovations. For example, players will also have to go to battles and discover new technology and trade items in the market.
Perhaps the fact that players could donate or contribute their hardly obtained resources among their citizens, and combine troops together to fend off the invasion. This is something like a guild or alliance system aimed to enhance the community. Of course, it will affect the final victory.
What set Civilization World apart from Many other games?
