DotMMO 2012 Roundup for new MMOs
Jan 18,2012 04:01 by Sara Lau0
What were the MMO highlights at the start of 2012? If you are a frequent visitor to DotMMO.com, you may notice we only report the new MMOs, browser-based MMO games. This week we have collected a couple of new beta MMOs, which look very promising.
TERA has always been hyped over the 2 years, but it has never been open to English-speaking players. Last week, TERA finally accepted the beta signups. If you like Korean MMOs such as Atlantica Online, Aion, Lineage Eternal, you might as well take an alternative adventure into TERA world.
There were a time when I cannot tell what is different between MMO and MOBA until I played League of Legends. Now EA lures us another MOBA Wrath of Heroes. It is now in 3rd closed beta and if you are lucky enough to grab a beta key, you can have earlier access to the game. If now, check Gamespy’s preview.
If a new MMO coming out, My initial response is to investigate its developer and publisher. The reason is simple: If the game is developed by Chinese guys, I may not recommend to anybody else, but if a quality MMO is made in China, that is another story. Frogster and Shanda Games teamed up to bring Eligium to North America and Europe. The game is now in closed beta and the open beta may be followed after they are ready to make money. Anyway, the game is not bad.
4, Age of Wushu (Age of Wulin)
Most of hardcore gamers would play standard MMOs: choose a race or class, upgrade their character and craft weapons and go to war. While Age of Wushu seems not go the way that you are familiar with, but it features a non-levelup huge world where players can role play any character and practice Chinese Martial Arts in the game. The game is currently not available for players beyond China, but Snail Games USA has announced the beta applications for the global version.
5, Brick Force
We previously has to download a client in order to run the game smoothly. With the development of new technologies, there are many possibilities on Internet. Brick Force, which is built with Unity 3D engine, is a browser-based 3D sandbox comic style online shooter. The game will be available on PC and other wireless devices.
6, Saga of Hero
I used to play MMOs by downloading a huge client and I was also thinking that is the only way to play a quality MMO. Recently I took a try on the browser MMORPG Saga of Hero, which turns out to be a worthplaying game with quality graphics and unique browser-based multiplayer online gaming.
Mail.ru announced the development of a Comic-style browser game RiotZone. The game release date is not yet confirmed, but you can sign up for the closed beta testing.
8, UFO, JAO, Bloody Bite
Gamigo has announced a lineup of new browser games such as Jagged Alliance Online, UFO online, and Bloody Bite. But they are all not open to all. From its press release, it seems these games are playable soon.
I have never been trying EA’s C & C series, but I recently played “Tiberium Alliances”. It is a browser-based MMORTS just coming out. If you are new to MMORTS, this game is a great choice, for it offers a completely detailed tutorial.
10, Carte TCG
Carte: Cogito Ergo Sum is a fast paced global online trading card game. Choose a Hero, build a deck and launch into exciting battles with fierce weapons and allies. Create and master endless strategies with an arsenal of spells and creatures to conquer your opponents. With an easy to learn system coupled with a user friendly interface, Carte is ready for new players as well as grizzled TCG veterans and everything in between.
