To be a game of games, excellent contents do not suffice, and advertisement of various types such as posters and trailers are also needed. However, not all advertising campaign turns out to be helpful in game promotion; some do the exactly the contrary to drag the game into the notoriety instead of celebrity list. A ready example is the game of Evony, which is done great harm to by its advertising of racy images of topless female. While it deserves the criticism about its campaign, what on earth is its content like?

The Fact

Evony is a browser-based real-time strategy game (Web MMO RTS) in the category of city building and military simulation. The basic gameplay, more or less similar to most games of the same genre, concerns invariably the resource, research, buildings, alliances, heroes, combat and level-up, and the like. Since it is difficult to innovate with regards to the form of gaming, it is the concrete and substantial content with details that really matters to make a game stand out.

In this most controversial browser MMO “Evony”, players role-play the lord of a city in absolute charge of all affairs to thrust their own city into the zenith of development. Grounded on the five resources and the population of the citizen, players can grow the city step by step to finally make the overall 74 different types of architecture erecting and functioning. And there are up to 20 different kinds of research players can work on in their Academy, ranging from civil aspects such as agriculture and metal casting to military-related fronts like horseback riding and military science, etc; all researches will accelerate the advancement of the city. With military units trained, players can delegate suitable heroes to lead their troops into war, raiding other cities for gold and attacking enemies for ownership of more land. Alliance can be and should be formed to increase the odds of victory in combat, be it defense or offense.

To lead the city into higher level, players should take great efforts to win medals of various types from the basic Knight to the highest Prinzessin, for such titles play a crucial role in city upgrading. Besides, Prestige and Honor are also important measures for players’ achievement.

In a sum, if we set aside its tasteless coating of failed advertisement, the real gameplay of it can be said to be above average. So if one plays for game’s sake, why not give Evony a shot?
