Sparta: War of Empires
  • Sparta: War of Empires

  • Sparta: War of Empires is the latest in Plarium’s lineup of MMO strategy games for the browser. Its gameplay is practically identical to earlier Plarium games such as Soldiers Inc. and Stormfall, with its ancient Greek setting far and away being the primary difference. Like the other games before it, War of Empires blends city-building with military conquest. As your city grows, so too will your alliances with other city-states, knowledge of technology, and offensive might. Review: The game opens with a surprising alliance with Leonidas himself. Despite how busy you’d expect the king of Sparta to be with the […] read »

  • Magecraft is a new strategy city-building game from Plarium, the creator of Soldier INC., Stormfall, and Total Domination. The game mainly lets you build your empire by constructing a bunch of buildings, training a variety of magic units and ultimately fighting against an array of enemies across different worlds. Developer Plarium seems crazy about re-skinning their fully fledged formula of building a city and then finding an enemy to attack. This mechanism has almost been used in all of their games yet with different themes. Honestly, when I saw Plarium’s first game Total Domination, I was amazed by the built-in features such […] read »

Marvel Avengers Alliance Tactics

  • Marvel Avengers Alliance is just one of many Marvel games that has enjoyed months in the top grossing lists for Facebook, Google Play, and the App Store. It’s not exactly surprising, then, that Disney Interactive has released a follow-up, Marvel Avengers Alliance Tactics. How cool of a follow-up it is might surprise you though, it definitely left me pleasantly surprised. Review: If there’s anyway to instantly regain my attention after I’m turned off by the phrase “Facebook game”, it’s to point out that it’s a “Marvel tactical RPG”. Admittedly, I’m a big fan of the genre (my favorites are the […] read »

  • If there’s one type of game that defines Facebook gaming, it’s the farming sim. Farmville put Zynga on the map in 2009 and enjoyed a healthy stretch of time where it pulled in more users than any other game on the platform (it peaked at over 80 million players per month). Since then, we’ve seen all kinds of variants and spin-offs trying to cash in on that success. There’s even a direct sequel in Farmville 2. Maybe it’s not so surprising that simple games with peaceful settings and constructive goals have mass appeal, but tons of these games have found […] read »

  • Farm Tales is the latest social game from Wooga, the German company behind hits like Diamond Dash, Jelly Splash, and Pearl’s Peril. It’s a charming farm sim sit in a caring world without greed or violence. Despite the idyllic setting, a mystery is afoot and there are animals to be saved! Your story begins in a small patch of forest inhabited by Helen the Hippo and six plots of soil where garlic has been planted. Helen quickly introduces you to the farming side of the game by having you harvest the ripened garlic, sell it at her market for coins, […] read »

Diamond Digger Saga

  • King, the casual gaming juggernaut behind the likes of Candy Crush Saga has expanded its Saga lineup once more with Diamond Digger Saga. The game tasks players with clicking on groups of matching blocks to remove them, just like Pet Rescue Saga. However, there are enough gameplay twists to make Diamond Digger a worthy and unique addition to the Saga series. Review: King has a tried-and-true game development process which has resulted in their great success in the casual gaming sphere. They post tons of games to their own portal, Royal Games, and the big hits there are the ones […] read »

  • Soldiers Inc. is yet another base-management real-time strategy game on Facebook. It seems like we’re getting new ones on a monthly basis, but that’s really not surprising when you consider how popular they are and how much money the successful ones rake in. These games do a great job bridging the gap between casual and hardcore gaming and attract a lot of players interested in a hardcore game experience with a casual commitment level. Clearly, Plarium is one of the companies that’s doing well with this type of game, as this is their fourth major entry in the genre. Review: […] read »

Fruit Jamba

  • Posted on  Apr 4,2014  09:04 , by Sara Lau
  • Fruit Jamba is the latest match-three puzzle game from publisher 6waves. Like the rest of 6waves’ modern offerings, Fruit Jamba’s format closely follows that of King’s indomitable Saga series of puzzle games — it’s a collection of levels spread out in a linear path on a map. Review: It’s surprising that 6waves is still so closely following King’s formula considering they’re in the middle of a lawsuit wherein King has accused 6waves of copying two of its titles. All the same, Fruit Jamba is the whole casual game package: solid art, solid music, and solid gameplay that offers a minor […] read »

  • Cinderella Story is a Facebook-based social game from BIT.GAMES. Review: Almost every little girl has a dream of becoming Cinderella, who lives a dramatic life and meet her Prince Charming at some extremely romantic occasions. Though real life usually does not turn out to be that way, it doesn’t mean they cannot realize their dreams through some simulation video games, like Cinderella Story. It’s a Facebook-based simulation game where you play as Cinderella and endeavor to make the way to the royal hall. The story is pretty much the same as the original Cinderella fairytale. The stepmother of yours deems […] read »
