From TV show to Browser-based aventure RPG; Family Guy Online Open Beta Slated for late 2011

Roadhouse Interactive and 20th Century Fox cooperate with each other in developing an online version of Family Guy, the popular animated series. It is indicated that Family Guy Online, an innovative free-to-play 3D RPG, is targeted to launch its open beta later this year, which is certainly a heartening piece of news to the numerous fans of the series around the world.

Family Guy is a popular cartoon series which follows mainly the adventure of the Griffins, a dysfunctional family in America. At first, Family Guy is doubted for its prospects. 20th Century Fox even went so far as to cancel the animated series in 2001. Surprisingly, Family Guy has achieved great success and attracted thousands of millions of funs around the world, so it is now ambitiously expanding its territory into the gaming world with the coming of the brand-new Family Guy Online.

First of all, Family Guy Online has already secured a large bunch of players even before it is released with so many faithful fans to the series. Gary Rosenfeld, Fox Consumer Products senior VP for new media, declared in an interview that the demographics of the Family Guy fan matches really well with the demographics of game players because the audiences are mainly aged from 18 to 34. With this inborn advantage, Family Guy Online will surely embrace a promising and successful future.

The selling point of Family Guy Online is that you can relive all the classic scenes and experience all the hilarious adventures from the animated series. And it may offer even more, for Ian Verchere, Roadhouse Interactive co-founder and chief creative officer, promised that the game would be able to expand the Family Guy universe with new stories and situations.

Family Guy Online also boasts a large variety of customizable options. You start the game to choose your favorite character, Peter Griffin, for example, follow his storyline, and embark on a brilliant adventure. The decorative items are also faithful to the series with leopard-print undies accessible. Besides, you do not need to worry about getting bored, for there are more than 150 characters wandering around in your neighborhood. Rosenfeld stated in the interview as follows: “Once the users get into the game, the user will interact with show characters. The show characters act as guides. They will send the user off on adventures that allow them to advance through the game.”

About FGO:

Family Guy Online is a free-to-play, browser-based, 3D multiplayer game. All you need is a browser with the awesome Unity Web Player installed, and a web connection of course. You can create a character, become a citizen of virtual Quahog, and play and interact with your friends and favourite show characters.

Family Guy Online will launch exactly later this year, but you can create your character now, with the Character Creator. This is an awesome tool that allows you to create and customize your own Family Guy Online character. The character you create will be the one you play once open beta starts, and if you register now and stuff, you have a much better chance of being part of the closed beta.
