Game Of Thrones Ascent is an upcoming social game inspired by Game of Thrones, the medieval fantasy television series. The game, which is being developed by Disrupt Beam with a license from HBO, casts players in a story-driven medieval world where they can expand their lands and grow reputation, forge tribes with friends, and perform quests.
Set in the world of Westeros, the game will deliver an unique gaming experience through intriguing stories, challenging quests and social interactions while it has also been expanded considerably from its original storyline with a mix of political and sexual plot as 7 families are eying for the power of Westeros.
Game of Thrones Ascent is a text-based strategy RPG inspired by the popular TV series, Game of Thrones, and George R.R. Martin’s novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire. In this game, players recruit sworn swords, construct and upgrade buildings, craft weapons, deal with all kinds of incidents and seek fame and power in the world of Westeros.
Traditional strategy elements can be found in the game. Players need to accumulate experience for level up so as to unlock more structures and functions while the deploying and utilizing of sworn swords, known as heroes in most strategy games, remain an important part in the gaming.
The game takes such a unique gaming approach that players probably feel like they are writing a book of themselves rather than playing a game with set plots and storyline. Once they finish a few quests, they will complete a chapter of the book. And the actions they’ve done are recorded in the book and can be checked upon anytime they want.
The beauty of the game lies in its special way of story-telling. As in most RPGs, players talk with the NPCs to accept and fulfill quests. But there is no set path that players are forced to follow. Instead, multiple choices are offered whenever a conversation takes place. They can do as they like when it comes to employing new staff, handling theft and even deal with the daughter who can’t help but mourning for her late father (or mother, depending on your own choice of gender). In that way, players will decide how the story will progress and of course, have to face the consequences of their every each decision, be that good or bad.
Innovations of Games of Thrones Ascent are also manifested somewhere besides the story itself. For example, the territory map is not the traditional one with structures all crowded in a flat small piece of land. Buildings in Game of Thrones Ascent are scattered on or between hills and players have to drag the map horizontally (actually that is the only thing you can do about the map) to have a view of other structures. That naturally makes the gaming experience much more realistic and outstanding.
Nevertheless, Game of Thrones Ascent isn’t spotlessly perfect either. For instance, since all the actions you do are done by the heroes actually and they cost varying lengths of time to finish, it is often the case that you have nothing to do but wait for the ongoing process to end before you go on to implement the next one. But no matter how Game of Thrones Ascent keeps one waiting, it would be silly not to sink one’s teeth into the free and enjoyable story creating experience the game has to offer.Game Of Thrones Ascent,
