Hidden Haunts Takes an Innovative Approach to Photography and Design in the Hot Hidden Object Genre
Use of Real Photography Creates Immersive Experience That’s a First for the Genre on Facebook
San Francisco, CA – Feb. 15, 2012 – In Hidden Haunts, a new hidden object adventure game launching today on Facebook, players solve supernatural cases and build a gothic ghost town. Published by Making Fun, Inc., a division of News Corporation digital media group, Hidden Haunts delivers on the best elements of downloadable hidden object adventure games – strong narrative, lush full-screen environments, a variety of puzzles – within the more social Facebook context and with an innovative use of real photographed settings.
Hidden Haunts is a free-to-play game with episodic content releases and an emphasis on social mechanics. Following the format of successful Hollywood TV shows, Hidden Haunts launches with a core storyline, but future releases will reveal more of the story and further develop the in-game characters. The combination of Making Fun’s expertise in the social games market and the ability to leverage insights from News Corporation’s FOX entertainment team gives Hidden Haunts players a deeper experience with a narrative that will evolve to remain fresh and exciting.
“Our timing with Hidden Haunts couldn’t be better,” says Making Fun president John Welch. “Facebook named a hidden object game as the number one title for 2011, and yet the few hidden object games available are still just starting to explore what’s possible in this genre. The key features of Hidden Haunts – the darker supernatural tone, the well-developed characters and storylines, and the rich visuals as a result of staging live photo shoots – will take the genre to a new level. Players will enjoy the realistic experience more than the cartoony, cobbled-together hidden object puzzles currently available. Other hidden object games on Facebook look cartoon-like because they use drawings for their puzzles; the puzzle settings in Hidden Haunts look real because they are real.”
All the hidden object puzzle settings in Hidden Haunts were staged and photographed live specifically for Hidden Haunts, and feature sophisticated shadows and lighting. The final images are specially treated to have a wonderfully rich look and feel, and additional images are inserted in post-production to artfully combine rich, realistic scenery with whimsical placements typical in this genre.
Hidden object puzzles are the core activity that players must solve in order to complete quests and gain experience. Instead of using strictly free-form building environments, Hidden Haunts innovates by combining user choice with a modular city that players unlock in sync with the narrative. Each ‘case’ is a self-contained set of puzzles, with new cases rolling out over time.
