Soul Captor (or Japanese and Chinese: 狩神伝) is a free MMORPG developed by SEEDO games and published by Gamania. The game allows players to explore Eastern fantasy world of “Mortal Realm ” and experience an action-packed adventure full of challenges, quests and magical encounter.
The game is also available on App Store, but it is completely different from what is characterized by on PC.
Soul Captor plunges players into the two continents “Mortal Realm” and “Dark Realm” where players role play as cute Archangels and protect the world from being attacked by those evil forces, and wind up exploring epic adventure and bring the world to peace. Along the way, players should do questing, collect items, and engage in PVP or PVE contents.
There are six classes altogether and at the initial beta release, only four classes are available: Warrior, Priest, Shaman and Onmyoji. Apart from some familiar features such as crafting, socketing, skill and achievement system, the game employs a Soul System that could help players capture the souls of those dead monsters. Interesting enough, the captured souls can be re-used as mounts.
Another feature should be attributed to its ”Anima” companion system with on-the-fly defensive, offensive or healing capabilities.
Soul Captor’s open beta version has just been released on July 12, 2012. It is a fantasy game full of adventures and worthy of your attentions.
The artwork is unique and elegant. Oriental buildings and landscapes with mild background music meet the taste of players who are in favor of uncovering ancient east myths. After you created your character, each class will be armed with unique armors. Although these armors are indeed no more than decorations, they make you look strong and powerful at the very beginning. If you don’t want to be another face in the crowd, various bravo outfits are there for you in the shop.
In games like World of Warcraft, Diablo 3 and many other famous ones, cut scenes are essential features for the enrichment of the stories. Soul Captor features a detailed storyline and there is also a cut scene at the beginning of each chapter, which is subtitled and dubbed with soft voices. Hearing stories of the kind provides a better understanding of the game and makes it more like an ongoing adventure uncovered little by little.
The user interface is clear and well arranged. Shortcut menu can be adjusted to any spot convenient for you and it could be hidden if you want a roomy sight. As auto pathing is getting popular among online RPG games, Soul Captor also introduced it for players. One different feature in this pathing mechanism is that if you interrupted the pathing process by accident, you just need to click the “Continue” button rather than setting the route again to find your destinations.
When you are challenging elite monsters or mighty bosses, make sure to take enough potions. Some monsters may not be casting heavy melee attacks however they are unusually endurable. Since there is only an 8-second cool down between each bottle of potion. In a protracted war, enough potions will help you grind to victories.
After some quests of perishing monster bosses, you are told to talk to the NPC beside you and teleport you out of that field. However the teleporting button is not on the dialogue board but placed at the right corner of your screen. I didn’t notice that at the beginning and thought that was a bug, so I teleported myselft with the scrolls rewarded after certain quests. If you come up with similar situations, please calm down and take a careful look around the interface as a whole.
If challenging a dungeon turns out to be too protracted by you alone, it is time for you to join a team. Gather friends of yours and form teams to withstand more tough tests of the game world. Or you could simply join random teams and make a few new friends maybe.
It took me half a day to reach level 20 and I had experienced many splendid features in the Soul Captor world. With well management and the support of fans, this game is going to be a big hit. Join the open beta test and find out bugs or things you dislike, so that the developers can make it a better game in the near feature.
