This morning’s breaking headline is nothing but EA’s announcement of implementing a free to play business model into Star Wars: The Old Republic whose playerbase keeps decreasing in recent months, pushing EA’s leadership to redeploy the marketing strategy.

Under the new free to play expansion of Star Wars: The Old Republic, players are able to approach the classic Star Wars roles for free with level 50 cap while they can also purchase full game contents and new features if they feel comfortable in exploring, conquering, befriending and accomplishing.

Jeff Hickman, Executive Producer of Star Wars: The Old Republic explained they have been listening to player’s feedback, and would raise an unprecedented model to the massively multiplayer online RPG by giving more players an chance to experience the masterpiece for free.

Our observation:

If EA does not change the way Star Wars: The Old Republic worked, the game would be dead. This move is more likely to call back some old players and new players. But in the long run, does the free to play Star Wars: The Old Republic remedy the situation? It is a question; it will be proved soon.
